Using HubPages for SEO and dofollow Links
76Why aren't my links dofollow??!! you ask. Read on Grasshopper...
Evidently a lot of people are interested in Hubpages because they can publish articles here that are permitted to include links, which in turn link to web pages that they are trying to improve for search engine optimization (SEO). It’s a common SEO belief that search engines, and in particular Google, regard the number of links to a webpage as an important indicator of how relevant or significant that page is, and therefore how high Google should rank it in the search results. If a webpage has a lot of external links (that is, links from other webpages that point to it) then Google will rank that page higher, so the theory goes.
Links can be either “dofollow” or “nofollow”. Dofollow links are apparently counted by Google and carry “link juice”, meaning Google takes account of dofollow links when assessing how many links point to your webpage. Nofollow links still link to your page but Google disregards (or at least doesn't regard nearly as highly) those links when it’s assessing how many links point to your target webpage, and therefore how highly it should rank your webpage in search results.
HubPages does allow dofollow links but only when the Hub itself has a HubScore over 40; and when the author’s score (“HubRank”) is 75 or higher. Hub Llama has written a very informative piece about this titled Hubpages Nofollow Guide HubRank Minimum.
The reason HubPages limits dofollow links is that spammers and internet marketers would otherwise flood HubPages with junk articles—HubPages wants genuine writers and contributors so limiting backlinks is a way of encouraging sincere content.
Getting your article’s HubScore over 40 basically happens automatically- just ensure that your article is reasonably well written; doesn’t contain grammatical and spelling errors; is at least 400 words long; and contains a picture or two (adding other modules like video or Amazon helps also).
Getting your author HubRank above 75, and staying there, takes a bit more effort. In my experience it takes:
- writing about 8-10 articles across a range of topics;
- being active on HubPages by reading other Hubs and contributing by commenting. Follow the suggested hubs that appear on your homepage and “Follow” articles and/or authors that are relevant to your interests. Read articles and make comments which are real and constructive and try to encourage dialogue with the authors by asking relevant questions in your comments.

Following these fairly straightforward tips I had a HubRank above 75 after about 3 weeks, although I have seen more active writers get there quicker. One thing to remember though is that you need to maintain your HubRank above 75 in order to maintain dofollow links in your articles.
I trust this helps and if you have any questions or comments please follow my advice and get active and write them in the comment box below! I’ll respond ASAP. Good luck!

Hubpages did fall out of favor with Google a while back, but it seems like they're coming back and coming back strong. I guess I should build more hubs!
